The Summer Reading Program is a statewide program that encourages kids to read (and be read to) throughout the summer. Typically the program has a kick-off in June (run by Children's Librarian Jennifer Whitehead), with an celebration scheduled during the second week of August for all children who complete the program successfully (read for at least 8 hours and complete a short book report or review).
Many of the duties of the volunteer Coordinator(s) center around the program-ending celebration in August, and include:
It would be optimal if the new Coordinators started as soon as possible. This will allow for time to learn the responsibilities of the positions before soliciting donations begins in May.
