Our Friends 7th Annual Community Tag Sale took place on Saturday, May 30, 2015, on the library's front lawn. It was a beautiful day! We had wonderful "treats" for sale and we want to thank all our bakers! We are looking forward to next year's 8th Annual Community Tag Sale.
Each one of us has a story about how we joined the Friends, many start with “I was invited to a meeting” or “a member asked me to join” These simple sentences can open the door to the rewarding and unique experience that is being a “Friend”. My own story starts this way; I was invited to a meeting nearly four years ago, and I’ll admit, at first I was a little nervous. How much did I really have to offer? What if I couldn’t commit a large amount of time? What would my place be in this well established group? These worries were quickly put aside, as I realized that the Friends is about so much more than just giving time or money. It’s a meeting place, a creative outlet, a group of people coming together, to benefit our Library and in turn, our town. I was accepted into the group with open arms and felt appreciated right away. I have never worked with a more passionate and giving group of people. Every meeting and event is filled with people who care about our Library and enjoy all the benefits it has to offer. Each and every Friend, no matter how much or how little they have to give, is a vital part of our organization.
My question to us all is; have you invited someone to a meeting? Have you extended the opportunity to become involved in our amazing group? If you have, thank you, if you haven’t, why not? Just think if no one ever invited us, how many great people would we never have met? How many memories would we not have? As the old adage says “Many hands make light work.” We need to continue to bring in new Friends so that we may carry on the incredible work that we do. I challenge each of us to invite someone. It could be your neighbor, your sister in law, the parent cheering next to you at the soccer game, put it out there and see who is interested; you may be surprised. After all, maybe they are just waiting to be invited! - Emily Streeter |
